Sir — This refers to the article, “Education for change” (May 14) by JS Rajput. Today’s academic dealing of the environment is such that it has become perfunctory, uninspiring and rote-based with little focus to ensure that the students imbibe the subject in the right spirit with practical awareness.
The syllabus-framers — teachers and most importantly the Government — should themselves set an example to their students before pontificating on the subject. Planting trees is just one of the smallest thing we can do to save the planet earth. Beyond that we must change our consumerist lifestyle and attitude towards ecology.
