This refers to the article, “Paying tribute to the Father of the Nation” (October 1) by Ashwani lohani. The writer has rightly said that the ‘Clean India Mission’ of Prime Minister Narendra Modi embodies the ‘cleanliness is godliness' slogan. While appreciating Mr Modi for his bold initiative in making cleanliness the main slogan and ensuring equal participation of all in this drive, I would like to emphasise that the Government of India should declare October 2 as Cleanliness Day, so that we don't lose focus in the coming years. Today, politicians are seen with a broom in their hands for photo sessions. This is mere symbolism.
let's also take a collective pledge to clean our environment, cities, towns, villages and surroundings. But till the time our politicians or lawmakers do not pledge to clean their public and personal lives by being honest and transparent, such drives of cleanliness will bear no meaning in the true sense.
