CJI makes a fair point but at an inappropriate time

This refers to the report, “CJI upset as PM mum on shortage of judges” (August 16). It was saddening to read Chief Justice TS Thakur's criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Independence Day address for not mentioning the problem of shortage of judges. The Chief Justice has been raising this issue with the Government for some time now; in fact, the Union law Minister, only a few days ago, had replied that many judicial appointments had been made and the rest are underway. At any rate, this delicate issue should have been sorted out between the two sides, and not under media glare.

Is the Independence Day address of the Prime Minister a proper occasion to air these problemsIJ And then, is it wise for the Chief Justice to publicly castigate the Prime Minister for not including one particular subject in his speechIJ The honourable Justice could have been more discreet in his comments.
