Sir — This refers to the usual practice of non-compliance by public authorities of Central Information Commission verdicts, where petitioners are unnecessarily harassed into re-approaching the commission. This burdens the CIC because it has to register cases of non-compliance even as it deals with fresh cases. CIC officials tried to reduce the burden by doing away with the practice of re-registering cases of non-compliance
But the solution lies in following the practice of some State Information Commissions, where it is compulsory to file compliance-reports, with the commissions keeping the files open till such a report is filed. Such an idea in respect of non-compliance of important Supreme Court verdicts was also favoured by eminent lawyer Fali S Nariman.
