Sir — This refers to reports that the Delhi lieutenant Governor has announced the formation of a special investigation team to probe the church fire in the State. It offers consolation to the Christian community (known for its peace-loving and law-abiding attitude) that lt Governor Najeeb Jung has taken the initiative. The church would not have gone up in flames in such a devastating manner, without the use of inflammable chemicals. Obviously, this was a deliberate act to create disharmony.
The Union Government must probe the case speedily and thoroughly to ensure that the culprits are brought to book sooner than later. Only a fast, effective and fruitful inquiry can bring to light the truth and work as an effective deterrent, and ensure the safety and freedom of people, especially the minorities, with respect to their faith.
