Sir — This refers to the report, “Solar scam: Con woman holds Kerala in suspense” (July 29).
The drama pertaining to the infamous solar scam allegedly perpetrated by Saritha Nair, with the connivance of staffers in the office of Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, and in which a number of prominent politicians are supposedly involved, is stranger than what is seen in films. Even as allegations, counter-allegations and rebuttals continue, the involvement of even more people in the political circle is being reported with each passing day. It has even led to a virtual war of accusations amongst many persons in the State Government itself.
At the same time, it is intriguing that, though Nair was arrested and interrogated during her remand stretching many days, the police did not record her statement. It is all the more perplexing that, what Nair had to say in confidence in the court was not immediately recorded by the magistrate. Naturally, it leads to suspicion, and the Opposition is right in raising the issue aggressively.
