Chandy must let law take its course and step down

This refers to the editorial, “Chandy's solar world” (January 29). The accusation that Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy’s office was a main link for ‘pay-offs' has now culminated in Ms Saritha Nair accusing Mr Chandy of receiving a direct bribe to the tune of Rs1.90 crore. This should be real trouble for the Chief Minister as all along, he rejected several theories of his proximity to Ms Nair. What has made things more complicated is a special court's order to register an First Information Report against him.

The best thing for Mr Chandy is to allow the law to take its own course by stepping down from his post. The very fact that the his office was under scanner should have propelled Mr Chandy to put in his papers. It is unfortunate that ‘moral high ground' is not exactly a pleasant word for most of our elected representatives. The Congress high command has little time to waste. It should ask the Chief Minister to put in his papers immediately if it envisages any hope to retain the State when Kerala goes to polls in May.
