Centre of learning or a centre of divisiveness?

Published on:

According to media reports, a group of left-wing students of a prestigious Delhi-based university flexed their muscles recently by provocatively ‘celebrating' the ‘Mahishasura Martyrdom Day’ to coincide with Durga Puja and Dussehra festivals. It was done to ridicule the sentiments of the majority community. This is yet another instance of how a small group of anti-national, communist-inspired radicals is misusing — and poisoning — the liberal educational climate in the prestigious university.

All sorts of anti-Indian extremist elements such as the Kashmiri separatists and the Maoists have made this university the hub of sinister activities. This is not the first time that its students have indulged in controversial actions that are meant to incite trouble. But they seem to be getting away, again and again. It is high time the Union Government took a close look at the growing tendency of anti-nationalism in this Centrally-funded leading centre of learning.
