CBI probe is welcome; let us have the truth

Published on:

By initially refusing to hand over IAS officer DK Ravi's death case to the Central Bureau of Investigation, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had not responded positively to the media and public pressure. The mounting displeasure shook Congress president Sonia Gandhi. She feared that the woefully bad Congress position across the nation may turn for the worse. Therefore, she instructed the Chief Minister to hand over the case to the CBI. Mr Siddaramaiah had no option but to go against his own wishes and obey the party high command's instruction.

But the news of protesters bursting crackers soon after the announcement of a CBI investigation was made, brought the matter to ridicule. Even the grief over Ravi's death seems to have drowned in their joy in response to the entrustment of the case to the CBI. However, there is little to rejoice unless the mystery over Ravi's death is resolved through a fair and transparent probe.
