Sir — The Scheduled Caste card had long been brought into play by most parties now in the Opposition. To look at the nomination of Ram Nath Kovind as a clever move by the BJP at a crucial political point does appear logical. A similar caste nominee from the Congress, Meira Kumar, should then be welcome.
Irrespective of the outcome of the election, a larger message would then emerge that the deep rooted neglect of the Scheduled Caste is being addressed with seriousness. In that event, Congress nominee Meira Kumar would serve the cause of this oppressed class even in defeat.
