Sir — This refers to the report, “Opp pits Stalin against Modi” (September 1). At a public meeting held in memory of M Karunanidhi, Opposition leaders, like Gulam Nabi Azad and Faroorq Abdullah stated that MK Stalin would be the ‘ideal’ candidate to take on the BJP. In other words, leaders just fell short of saying that Stalin can well be the prime ministerial candidate.
While showering praise is one thing, they must not indulge in flattery. What the leaders, who assembled to pay homage to Karunanidhi, had done was nothing but an act of hypocrisy.
That said, it could be a ‘feeler’ for not only Stalin but other Opposition leaders too. While one can be ambitious, one should not be avaricious. While one does not know the hidden agenda of those who lavish praise on Stalin and project him as the prime ministerial candidate, one hopes that Stalin does not fall prey to the machinations of the Opposition parties and desires what he deserves.
