Card regime welcome, now popularise it

This has reference to the editorial, “The cash to card regime” (June 26). The moves by the Government to popularise the card system for money transactions is welcome. The Government is contemplating giving tax concessions to people who regularly use cashless payments for money transactions, whether offline or online. The use of cards will curb to a large extent the circulation of black money, as the transactions will be on record.
But what is worrying is that most of the people belonging to the poor strata of the society, have only now opened bank accounts. They are not that educated enough to operate debit or credit cards. Moreover, most of them do not even possess these cards. Banks should appoint people to deliver formal education to the people who are not aware of the operations of the cards. Besides, the Government must take stronger measures to ensure that fraudulent withdrawals do not happen.
