Capital punishment

Published on:

Sir — UN secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has reportedly pressed Pakistan to end capital punishment. Pakistan has been taking right steps to ward off threat from terrorists. Where is the need for the United Nations to show sympathy to terrorists who kill innocent children and other civilians without any bit of remorseIJ

Does the UN not want to instil a sense of fear among the terroristsIJ The UN should not remain as a showpiece when India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq and other countries are facing unbridled terrorism. Mere condemnation of every killing will not provide justice to the victims. If Mr Ban Ki-moon is unable to do anything to make the world a fit place to live in, at least he should not plead in favour of those who are waiting to go to the gallows. He should leave the field to the respective countries to play in matters of sternly dealing with terrorism.
