Sir — China has been behaving like a schoolyard bully of late. Beijing's warning to world leaders against meeting Dalai lama is highly inappropriate and unacceptable. All countries are not subordinate to China. It is the prerogative of sovereign nations whom they talk to. China's dictum to world leaders must be roundly condemned by all world leaders. The entire world knows that the Dali lama is pursing the path of non-violence. China expects every country should be like Mongolia which succumbed to the warnings of China by being apologetic to it after itsleaders met the Dalai lama.
But then all countries dependent on China have no alternative but to fear China. The logical corollary to that is countries dependent on China must reduce or remove their dependence on it to be able to assert themselves in their respective national interests. As for India, Beijing took serious objection to the visit of the Dalai lama to Arunachal Pradesh and had protested when the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh made a trip to Arunachal. The world should not allow itself to be cowed down by Beijing. China is a bull to needs to be held by the horns.
