Budget provisions are a good deal for farmers

This refers to the editorial, “Suit-boot ki sarkarIJ Are you jokingIJ” (March 1). The Union Budget, being one of the most significant political documents, needs to be analysed with impartiality and honesty, both on merits and de-merits, as its efficacy or otherwise, leaves some far-reaching positive or negative effects. The ritualised criticism for the sake of criticism does not go down well with the aam admi and neither does it serve the ideal purpose.

Ours is an agricultural country. Therefore, relying on agricultural and allied income and strengthening of rural economy assumes significance. This requires timely implementation of schemes for agricultural growth as well as utilisation of funds earmarked for them. To address the burning problem of loan-ridden farmers who take extreme step under the duress and those suffering from crop failure owing to a shortfall of rain or poor irrigation, the pro-agriculture provisions of Budget 2016-17 are a good deal for the farmers and are expected to yield favourable results.
