Sir — This refers to the article, “Stature falling like ninepins all around” (April 12) by G Parthasarathy. The article makes painful reading about India’s standing in the world community today. The country’s first real humiliation was when Congress president Sonia Gandhi took control of the Congress-led UPA Government. People mocked at us and said Indians had reverted to their old habit of asking foreigners to run the country for them.
Some British friends even pointed out that they had sent their best aristocrats like lord Curzon and lord Mountbatten to provide direction and effective governance, unlike the present bunch of leaders who have treated this vast country as their personal fiefdom and appropriated its resources with impunity.
