Bowing to the US

Published on:

Sir — No self-respecting country would ever justify spying on its own embassy and its people by another nation. But India did when its glib Union Minister for External Affairs Salman Khurshid euphemistically called it ‘a computer study of patterns’, to be in the United States’ good books.

Why has India stooped to showcase its subservience to an arrogant US, when that country’s own Nato allies like France and Germany and many Americans themselves have strongly denounced the US snooping unequivocallyIJ

Also, India’s summary rejection of US whistleblower Edward Snowden’s asylum plea was a deviation from the much-cherished tradition of providing asylum to conscientious objectors to escape persecution.
