Sir — This refers to the article, “Grandiloquence of a fading leader” (June 19) by Rajesh Singh. It is a blunt and accurate analysis which totally decimates the claim of Mr lK Advani that the NDA will stand dissolved the day Mr Narendra Modi becomes the prime ministerial choice of the BJP.
Mr Advani’s recent utterances and tantrums have tarnished the image of the party and proved that he no longer has the best interests of the party in his mind. He may have had a thousand reasons for his decision to resign from party posts, but he should have thought for a moment the damage it could cause to the BJP, which he helped build to its present status; and the damage to the public perception of the BJP being a political party with a difference.
Also, it did not do any good to Mr Advani’s image among the people, which he built over years of selfless work. His obstinacy reminds one of Mahatma Gandhi's opposition to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, who was forced to vacate the Congress presidentship. It is unfortunate that the BJP’s mentor is seen to be pursuing his personal agenda.
