Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Samajwad’s Big Boss” (January 18). The 2017 Uttar Pradesh election may turn out to be a blockbuster. Indian elections in triangular contests have remained an enigma and beyond predictions given our first — past the post system.
Margins of victory stay narrow and in Uttar Pradesh, with its complex vote-banks, they will be thinner. What is more fascinating is that the Samajwadi Party seems to have scripted a plot more surreal than a movie. A hero beset with intrigue within and a sliding appeal, transforms himself overnight to a righteous underdog in the last reel!
Then all villains in his court go out of their way to resurrect their discredited hero in inexplicable way, to raise him to high pedestal. Adversaries are transfixed. The war scene is left to the audience to democratically script and decide the winner.
