Blame corruption

Sir — President Pranab Mukherjee’s concept on judicial activism is apparently ambiguous and incomprehensible. Undoubtedly, in the past many decades, the country has witnessed a number of judicial interventions, particularly by the Supreme Court, to protect the genuine interests of the nation as guaranteed by the Constitution, and, therefore, terming such interventions as judicial activism is comprehensively misleading and also irrational.

In our secular democracy, despite the Constitution’s unassailable sovereignty, judicial activism will continue to be inevitable, so long as there are deep flaws.
