Black money

Published on:

Sir — Participating countries of the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development had agreed that after the closure of a bank account after the withdrawal of the deposit, the bank concerned need not furnish details of the previous account-holder to any authority in any part of the world. So, all those big accounts of Indians that allegedly had black money and are now closed for good, will escape scrutiny. This should have been known to the present-day rulers.

Those who did not close their accounts must have had a feeling that their accounts have solid legal basis and that they can fight it out. The curiosity of the people seems to be mainly concerned with the disclosures of names of leaders of political parties, whom they want to be unmasked.

The country should be primarily concerned with the unearthing of black money and consequent confiscation of the money, which should then go to the national exchequer.
