BJP's series of mistakesled to its massive defeat

This refers to the editorial, “A massive mandate” (February 11). Even the Aam Aadmi Party must not have dreamt that it would get such an overwhelming victory. It won at the cost of the BJP's arrogance and the Congress's dwindling base among the minorities and the Dalits. The BJP's hegemony is itself to blame as it took a last minute decision to nominate Ms Kiran Bedi as the chief ministerial candidate and parachuted some candidates by overlooking the local leaders. On the other hand, AAP workers toiled day and night among the masses to promote their ideology and assurances.

The BJP has no excuse to offer for its monumental defeat. It is futile to take solace in the fact that the Congress has fared even worse. The Congress was a washout even before the election, whereas the BJP had everything to lose. let us hope that the AAP comes out of its political gimmick and fulfills the 70 promises it has made to the public.
