BJP's loss in Bihar led Aamir to join protest

Published on:

This refers to the article, “Aamir, you've hurt India” (November 25) by Chandan Mitra. Now, actor Aamir Khan too has joined the team of those who have been protesting against ‘growing intolerance’ in the country. Perhaps Mr Khan has forgotten about incidents like the 1984 massacre, in which thousands of Sikhs were killed, the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley etc. However, Mr Khan's case is somewhat different. He has expressed his feeling at an opportune time, after the BJP’s massive defeat in Bihar. Mr Khan thought that the ruling party does not have any future and, therefore, it was time to join the anti-Government camp. Otherwise, Mr Khan never missed a photo opportunity with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

However, it is a bitter fact that the country is by and large intolerant, not because of religious issues, but because of the economic and trade conditions. Massive reforms is the need of the hour, which includes the right to reject, so that the BJP may be compelled to field good candidates.
