Biased opinion

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “It’s media’s turn now” (March 17). We would be scandalised if the judiciary were to advertise its even-handedness, citing verdicts in support. Some sections of media market themselves as the ‘most viewed’ channel, the ‘most read’ newspaper — and this is accepted as legitimate promotion.

In the same breath, the media seeks to defend its halo from dissent over its perceptions.

Certain media personnel are claiming that they made the Aam Aadmi Party and can bring it down as well. Either way, they concede to a degree of bias, which underscores the inbuilt constraints of their calling. The media distinguishes itself best when it is seen as reporting  fairly and evenly, and seldom when it tends to be judgemental.
