Sir — It was painful to read about several students committing suicide after their 12th standard results in Tamil Nadu, as they felt they had obtained low marks. Often, people conclude that there is a strong correlation between academic excellence and success in life. Students who have scored fewer marks in examination should not lose hope.

Getting low marks doesn’t mean they will be failures in life. Studies have shown that academic excellence does not always guarantee success in life nor does poor academic performance mean total failure.
