Sir — Kerala has always been a place of all kinds of snakes, including the venomous ones like the cobra and the viper hidden in their snake pits most of the time. But during the floods, many of them, bereft of habitats, swam around in the flood waters, posing great danger to human beings.
Houses flooded with water served as hiding places for these reptiles. The people, returning from relief camps back to their homes, have to be cautious while re-entering their flood-battered houses as these reptiles are prone to be hidden in unlikely places.
Following this, the Kerala State Government had provided adequate free anti-venom medicines to flood victims in affected areas and snake experts had been assigned to provide services to help the public overcome the deluge.
It is natural for insects and reptiles, even crocodiles, to flow with the flood water to nearby houses and makeshift but what one must do is be alert while putting his/her feet in shoes or clearing cracked tiles, or anything for that matter.
