Sir — This refers to the article, “Enchant voters with Modi magic again” (August 29) by Kalyani Shankar. The writer has aptly brought out the fact that the BJP needs to bring back the feel-good factor if it wants to do well in the coming Assembly polls. It does not require special qualification to see the dwindling of enthusiasm in the party’s cadre from what it was before the lok Sabha election.
Perhaps it is a case of the usual fatigue after the hard work, which will go away shortly. Or maybe it is more serious and has got something to do with the high moral standards that have been set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for party workers in the present state of morality in the country. In any case, the enthusiasm has to be re-ignited.
Unfortunately, due to a particular type of atmosphere created in the country for the last 60 years or so, the BJP and Mr Modi do not have the luxury of indulging in a friendly media, especially of the English variety, barring exceptions. It is for this reason that no other Government in present memory has been put to such a rigorous scan as Mr Modi’s regime has been right from the first day of its existence; motives have been attributed to every move Mr Modi has made.
Under the circumstances, it becomes absolutely necessary that the party’s cadre is suitably enthused and employed to keep the general public informed about the ground work being done by the Government in areas of good governance, better living conditions for people, and alleviation of poverty and corruption. In this direction, support is also to be provided to the cadre by quality and articulate spokespersons. Sadly, this is missing for now.
