Sir — This refers to the news report, “Marines will not return to India: Italian Minister” (March 12). It has become quite clear that the Italian Government has been doing everything in a calculated manner to save the two marines charged under Indian law for killing two Indian fishermen off the Kerala coast.
Now, if Rome insists on international arbitration, the case will most likely be protracted and may not even have a positive outcome for us. In any case, the recent incident is a stunning blow to India and the UPA Government’s kid-gloves diplomacy.
