Sir — This refers to the article, “Monumental betrayal of Bengal, its values” (December 28) by Anirban Ganguly. The author has aptly talked about the plight of West Bengal since 1970s when the Naxals indulged in violence, followed by 33 years’ rule of the CPI(M)-led left Front which made the State a barren desert. The reign of Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee post-2011 has drove the State towards extremist jihadi doom.
It goes to the credit of the intellect and culture of Bengal which learnt about modern scientific and liberal literary culture of the West from British rulers and spread the message to other parts of the country, so much so that almost all universities and cultural institution in north India were led and taught by Bengali teachers. People from other parts of the country used to visit Calcutta for educational excellence till 1960s. Now, with Banerjee at the helm, Bengal as an abode of extremist jihadi complexion where indigenous Hindus are finding it difficult to live safely.
