Belligerent China is not at peace with itself

This refers to the editorial, “New great wall of China” (June 25). You have rightly assessed China’s imperial mindset. China's re-birth in 1949 was predicted by Indian leaders like JB Kripalani, who warned against the new dictator rising from the east. Jawaharlal Nehru, however, failed to understand the new danger. Instead, he offered Tibet on a platter to China. Historically, Tibet has been the buffer state between India and China. Diplomatically, India could have always used the Tibet card as an irritant against China. Nehru, with his false idealism, put India in a position of diplomatic disadvantage. This was skillfully exploited by Pakistan.

But nature never excuses the wrongdoers. The chickens are now coming home to roost. In a terror attack on June 25 in China’s restive Xinjiang Province, 18 persons were killed. Militancy in this region  is fuelled from Pakistan. Similarly, the South China Sea disputes are still tormenting Beijing while India's diplomatic options in Southeast Asia are open.
