Being specific

This refers to the article, “Aamir, you’ve hurt India” (November 25) by Chandan Mitra. Actor Aamir Khan should have specifically mentioned the incidents which prove that intolerance in the country has increased.

It is obvious that Mr Khan opted to become party to the motivated intolerance campaign, being managed by those who were gunning for Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the past 10 years, but failed in their attempts to prevent him from becoming the Prime Minister of the country.

We cannot overlook the fact that in 2005, when the US Government denied a visa to Mr Modi for participating in a conference, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh informed Parliament that the Indian Government had told the US that denying visa to a constitutionally-elected State Chief Minister is a serious matter for India.

Mr Khan topped the list of 204 signatories, who sent a letter to Mr Singh, saying that they were shocked by his statement about Mr Modi’s visa and sought an apology from him for defending Mr Modi, who was then the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
