Being realistic

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Collapse of an alliance” (January 28). It is an irony that on the one hand, the Shiv Sena has said that it will not withdraw support from the Maharashtra Government. On the other hand, it has decided to fight the forthcoming Mumbai civic elections separately.

Yes, there has been some acrimony between the BJP and the Shiv Sena, but then, this is bound to happen in coalition politics. Moreover, the Shiv Sena has to also reconcile with the fact that the BJP did well in both, the State election and the lok Sabha election on its own.  It is in the Shiv Sena’s interest to remain in coalition. In fact, it should have avoided going solo in BMC elections.
