Bedi is tough and honest but also inexperienced

The BJP’s appointment of Ms Kiran Bedi, the ‘iron lady’, as its chief ministerial candidate in Delhi offers a strong counter to Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal. Both have the same clean image and are known for their personal integrity. Mr Kejriwal has two drawbacks. First, he ran away from responsibility when the people voted him to power the first time around. Second, he has a habit of creating an unruly atmosphere through demonstrations and dharnas which he believes is the solution to all his problems.

The BJP is likely to face a mild opposition from within the party for projecting Ms Bedi as the leader but the bigger problem is that the former IPS officer is a newcomer in politics. Occasionally, it is better to lose something in the present for a better achievement in the future. Remember, lord Krishna killed Barbarik, Bheem’s unruly son, so as to restore peace.
