Be inclusive and shun valley-centric politics

This refers to the article, “The growing sense of not belonging” (May 30) by Hari Om.

It was but natural that someone with a mind of his own will speak out against the blatant discrimination, rank favouritism and utter neglect that Jammu region has been subjected to since 1947. The figures of lower economic development and social unrest in the Jammu area amply reveal the mindset of leaders in Kashmir, as being, patently communal and essentially inimical to the interests of the residents of Jammu.

The very pronounced ‘valley-centric' and inequitable treatment meted out to those belonging to Jammu is unacceptable and intolerable. The sooner the leadership at the Centre takes concrete measures to address the concerns of the people of Jammu and ladakh the better it would be for all.

The BJP has been raising this issue vociferously, but little relief can be expected as the Congress-led UPA Government has turned an indifferent ear to the pleas and warnings. However, the Union Government must resolve the matter expeditiously in fairness to the disgruntled citizens of this border region and in the interest of national security.
