Sir — This refers to reports that Islamic State terrorists have burned alive a Jordanian pilot. Close on the heels of the decapitation of two Japanese captives by the group, has come the barbarous act of roasting alive a Jordanian pilot. Gone are the days of the Stockholm Syndrome, when captors developed harmonious empathy with the captives and even set them free, unharmed.
It is unfortunate that in neither of the above mentioned cases, the respective Governments had been able to secure the safe release of their nationals from the clutches of the organisation. However, in the pilot’s case, the Jordanian Government did not yield to the Islamic State’s demand for the release of a dreaded female terrorist in exchange.
