Sir — This refers to the report, “Dealers defer cardbandi at petrol pumps” (January 9). It appears that bankers finally succumbed to the united power of petroleum dealers to charge one per cent levy on debit/credit card sales.
Contradictorily, banks unhesitatingly charge around Rs 23 for every ATM transaction exceeding the prescribed limits from debit card holders, apparently due to their scattered status. Besides, bankers also recover annual ATM fees from card holders irrespective of the use of cards. The Union Finance Ministry and also the Reserve Bank of India must intervene and leash our public/private sector banks with comprehensive guidelines in the bona fide interest of its customers.
