Ban construction

Sir — This refers to the article, “Saving the green lung of capital” (October 25) by Manjula Pal. The writer has rightly said that construction activities in parks, less than three to four acres of land, must be banned, as this will reduce green area substantially.  However, as someone who has worked with the horticulture department, I can confidently say that all MCD-maintained parks have enough benches.

On the other hand, many senior citizens have supported the construction of gazebos with shades, as these huts will be a comfortable place for them to socialise and gossip. Unfortunately, in the absence of night guards, these structures are being misused. Parks are meant for walkers and other health activities, and construction activities must not be allowed.
