This refers to your Editorial, “Moving beyond rhetoric” (October 27). Undoubtedly, USA needs Pakistan for surface access to Afghanistan as well to Iran with which the tempers recently have run high. Pakistan has been exploiting this compulsion to its advantage. Viewing the situation from India's security perspectives, the Western front has always been "hot" — in the past, all the onslaughts came from that side. At present also, terror infiltration in India enjoys the support of Taliban and ISIS. The American pull out from Afghanistan could pave the way for a complete radicalisation of Afghanistan thus endangering our security. So, we are the horns of a dilemma. However, through clever progression and taking one step at a time aiming for the Balkanisation of Pakistan, a solution may be possible. First, PoK returns to us, and secondly, NWFP (now Khyber-Pakhtunwa) that was wrongly included in Pakistan be made a self-administered area keeping under Indian/American guidance. Thus, the surface access provided through NWFP can make the US capable of adopting a tough approach towards Pakistan. The task would become easier by facilitating the liberation of Baluchistan also functioning with our support and that of the US-led West. As regards Iran, it is also not on healthy terms with Pakistan so we can and should use our good offices to bring about a degree of US-Iran rapprochement. A breakthrough on these lines will enable US to annihilate terror modules not only in Pakistan but across the globe.
