Balanced act

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Modi’s crack team” (November 10). The new ministry is a blend of experience and youth. Talent, competence and learning have been kept in mind by the Prime Minister while inducting the new Ministers. Technocrats have been rewarded and regional and caste representations have been balanced. Sons and daughters of strong politicians holding power remain on the sidelines.

Mr Narendra Modi has astutely spotted the go-getters. Persons with a clean image have found a place in the Modi-led team. A master strategist like Mr JP Nadda and a hardcore team man like Mr Rajiv Pratap Rudy have got their due. Young parliamentarians like Mr Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and Mr Babul Supriyo have been given a chance to prove that sportspersons and artistes can make a mark as Ministers.

Bihar and Uttar Pradesh getting a lion’s share, is not merely out of political compulsions, though the big BJP representation in the two States cannot be overlooked. At 66, the size of the Modi ministry is comparatively lean. The reshuffling of Ministers in key portfolios and the decongestion of overburdened ministries augur well for the Prime Minister’s promise of providing “maximum governance”.
