Badminton cheers

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Srikanth’s glorious days” (June 27). It will not be an exaggeration to say that now, Indian male badminton players have emerged from the shadows of Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu.

It is Kidambi Srikanth’s consecutive second super series title in a week. What is more commendable is that in both these wins, first in Indonesia and then in Australia, he has beaten top ranked Son Wan Ho. By winning this title he has put his heartbreak loss at the Rio Olympics quarter-finals far behind. And in Australian final, he defeated Olympics winner Chen long in straight sets, which is a huge achievement in itself and testimony of his skill. With Sai Praneeth, HS Prannoy and Kidambi Srikanth being at the helm, Indian badminton looks in safe hands, while both PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal being the torch-bearers in the other category.
