Sir — This refers to the report that Mr Jaswant Singh has accused BJP president Rajnath Singh and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje of betrayal. As an admirer of Mr Jaswant Singh, I am deeply saddened by his uncharacteristic and ill-tempered reaction to the denial of ticket to him from Barmer constituency.
One may expect such behaviour from self-serving, petty politicians on the eve of an election, but it’s hard to believe that a leading BJP member, who has so much respect and has held so many high positions in Government, could stoop so low as to ridicule his colleagues and compare the BJP’s functioning to the Emergency era. Senior party leaders had offered him a position befitting his high stature, but he scoffed at that.
