This refers to the editorial, “Triggering gun politics” (January 11). With the US standing out among global powers, every move that it takes is significant for other nations. While President Barack Obama’s approach to controlling gun violence has faced some hindrances from the US Congress, particularly lawmakers from the Republican party, the situation is better now.
Private weapon dealers will have to be wary before selling guns and will have to ascertain the precedents of the buyers so that deadly weapons do not fall into wrong hands. Hopefully, Mr Obama’s efforts will bear fruit this time. It’s not just the terror attacks, but regular crimes that include gang violence, property thefts, fatal suicides and the rampant shootouts, stem from the illegal sale of guns.
