ATM woes

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Of hyperbolic reactions” (November 21). The Supreme Court has rightly expressed concern on the possibility of “riots” over the demonetisation, saying that people are becoming “desperate” and “frantic” for money, braving queues for hours for the past several days.

Unfortunately, a number of reported angst over demonetisation in urban areas is shaped by  dysfunctional ATMs. It will take at least five months for all ATMs to function properly. Public patience will run out well before that. The Government must launch a massive public-private drive to get these machines working.
