Appeasement is just bias by another name

Published on:

This refers to the article, “Discrimination in the name of secularism” (July 1) by Balbir Punj. Be it the Samajwadi Party or the Congress, they both seem to be outdoing each other in matters of minority appeasement.

They are actively pursuing a vote-bank agenda, to the exclusion of other issues. The ‘secular' Samajwadi Party has been trying hard to release people accused of planning and executing serial bombings in incidents across the State. Mercifully, the Allahabad High Court has intervened and stopped the freeing of the accused.

The Special Investigation Team's clean chit to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and his rising stature at the national level is naturally giving the Congress, and indeed other ‘secular' parties, nightmares; hence the Ishrat Jahan case has suddenly taken centre-stage. The Mandi by-poll victory of the Congress shows that corruption is not an issue. The majority community must unite to vote out the Congress-led UPA regime.
