While widespread outrage against the Uri attack, in which unfortunately our forces seem to have been taken by surprise, is fully justified, the manner in which words such as ‘nuclear war' are being bandied about in the Press and the electronic media, is deeply disturbing. Do we have any idea about the massive havoc and destruction that any nuclear engagement would necessarily involve on both sidesIJ
I must urge that despite our deep anguish, we have to maintain a sense of balance and proportion. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assurance is that the perpetrators behind the attack will be punished, but we must not end up punishing millions of innocent men, women and children, including our own citizens. This is not a matter of succumbing to blackmail. Rather, there should be a plea to view the whole situation in perspective and take such action as may be appropriate.
