Every party stuck to its guns on the Telangana issue, staged political drama, shed crocodile tears (some may have been induced by pepper spray), tried to gain maximum political mileage before the impending election, and most were found to be confused as to which side they were and what they really wanted.
The worst situation was for the Congress which received a battering with Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy and other Congress leaders going against the party line on the issue, with the former eventually quitting the Congress and the chief ministership. Still, Parliament managed to get the Telangana Bill passed in Parliament.
Whatever may be the political fallout, this is a momentous moment for the people of Telangana, who justifiably felt ignored and neglected for years. There was no option left but to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh. As far as Telangana is concerned, with 17 lok Sabha seats, it can bargain a good deal from the Centre.
