This refers to the report, “Pak Army kills 5 jawans on Indian soil” (August 7). The Pakistani Army's frequent violation of the ceasefire norms at the line of Control and the killing of our brave soldiers is a brutal reminder that a leopard can never change its spots.
This latest round of killing ought to be a setback to the peace process which was going to take place between India and the newly-elected Nawaz Sharif Government in Pakistan. Unfortunately, it won't. The reason: The Congress-led UPA Government is not just reluctant to call a spade a spade and condemn the killing, it goes so far as to prevent the Indian Army from naming and shaming Pakistan, all because it is keen to go ahead with talks with the neighbouring country.
The Government must stand by the Indian Army and allow it to give a fitting response to this attack. Union Minister for Defence AK Antony must condemn this incident and boost the morale of the jawans, rather than be a mute spectator to such killings.
