Animal rights

This refers to the article, “Superiority claim that’s misplaced” (August 27) by Hiranmay Karlekar. Citing quotations of certain animal-lovers and ignoring even the basic rights and values of human beings, the writer has criticised the National Human Rights Commission, saying that a party to a dispute should not be its judge. He has also contended, though out of context, that human rationality is often exaggerated and that reasoning has spawned the rise of doctrines leading to tyrannies and savage persecution of millions of people.
Also, the writer has tried to create an impression that the human rights panel is against animals. It is a totally wrong view. When animals lack rationality, as he himself admits, is it not necessary to find ways to contain the consequent threat and ensure human safetyIJ
