Sir — This refers to the article, “Playing the victim for no valid reasons” (March 12) by Hari Om. The well thought-out article correctly brings out certain hard facts of Kashmir’s politics and highlights basic infirmities displayed by New Delhi in wielding its authority over Kashmir. Unfortunately, in dealing with Kashmir, New Delhi has exhibited a sense of guilt. Kashmir’s political leadership has exploited this to its advantage and drawn maximum aid from the Union Government, without demonstrating any accountability.
Tragically, while we continue to condemn Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for the 2002 violence, no word of condemnation has been uttered by the political class or the pseudo-secularists for the political mess in Jammu & Kashmir during the 1980s that resulted in the mass exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley.
The writer has rightly said that the politicians of the State have everything in plenty, yet they raise the bogey of alienation and attack the Indian state. And ironically, New Delhi continues to turn a blind eye.
