Ancient language

Sir — This refers to the article, “Why Sanskrit remains confined” (August 7) by Priyadarshi Dutta. Sanskrit lost its colloquial aspect long time back. Once it used to be a language of the elite. With passing time, the medium of conversation became prakrit. So, people gained knowledge after reading Sanskrit literature but explained it in their mother tongue or other colloquial languages.

Unfortunately, due to imposed English superiority, we are not giving importance to Sanskrit. Also, it is restricted to some people who are self-proclaimed savants. But hope remains for the knowledge-written in Sanskrit language.
